SAFETY
The Student Brake Away is not a race.
There are no time trials included within the suggested route and none are encouraged. Drive within your own limits, the limits of your passengers, the limits of your car and, most importantly, the limits of the law.
We cannot stress the importance of good road behaviour on an event like this enough, so please drive sensibly, and give all your fellow road users the appropriate care, attention and respect.
TEAMS
ALL ENTRANTS MUST BE OVER 18 AS OF 1ST JANUARY 2008.
Each team/car must consist of a minimum of TWO Persons and a maximum of FIVE persons.
Each team must consist of a minimum of TWO Drivers of which one has to be OVER 21 years of age.
ONE vehicle per Team
At least TWO team members must be in full-time university education OR have graduated within the last 4 years
We advise that all drivers have at least 3 years of driving experience, although this is not a mandatory requirement for entry. Ultimately the decision as to whether you are fit to drive long distances on the continent is that of your motor insurance provider and we will trust their judgement.
A team may enter ANY vehicle, as long as it is in keeping with the theme of the event i.e. students, fun, character and originality - not speed. That is not to say that fast cars won’t be permitted, but we’d rather see something fun than something flashy. The interpretation of this rule is at the discretion of the organisers and their decision whether or not to permit a particular vehicle or team to enter is final.
LEGAL DOCUMENTS
On day one of the event each team must produce the following documents, all valid for the duration of the entire event:-
• MOT and Road Tax certificate for the team’s vehicle
• Vehicle Insurance documents for all designated drivers
• A valid drivers licence for all designated drivers
• Travel Insurance for all team members
• Passports for all team members
Failure to produce ANY of these documents on day one will result in the applicable team member(s) being prevented from participating in the event.
FOREIGN COMPLIANCE
It is the responsibility of each team to know, understand, and comply with any applicable driving laws of any country they may visit during the course of the event.
INDEMNITY AND LIABILITY
All entrants will be required to sign an indemnity agreeing to the above rules and indemnifying the organisers of the event against any liability for said entrant’s actions. A copy of this indemity agreement and full TERMS AND CONDITIONS of the event can be found HERE.
